It was 1946 when Greg Rogers Senior opened his appliance store in Wakefield. One of the first appliance stores in the area selling and servicing the new generation of washers and dryers being produced after the war, the store remained as the base of operations until Greg later moved to a Main Street location.
Realizing the opportunity to save money when his rent became exorbitant, Greg moved the business into his home at 50 Main Street in 1955 where it remained and flourished for almost 20 years. Yes that is a washer on the top of that tree stump.
Meanwhile Greg Junior was becoming quite famous as a television host and anchorman in Bangor Maine. But he longed to return home and raise his family in Massachusetts and decided to learn the appliance business. He returned in 1957 and worked with his father at the business on Main Street. He left to open his own business in Lynn in 1958.
It was 1958 when Greg and John opened for business at 101 Western Ave, Lynn. The rent was eight dollars a week and we charged four dollars for a service charge to come to your home and repair your washer or dryer. The building had a space heater but we never turned it on for the first two years to cut our expenses. In 1963 we became a Maytag Home Appliance Center and enlarged the front of the store to better accomodate our new washers and dryers.
Our store as it is today, still in the same location. Many things have changed over the last 5 decades but what has never changed is our family's honesty and integrity and our desire to bring the best value in today's appliances together with the finest service available anywhere.
